•What did you think was the most valuable thing that happened for you tonight?
Understand the concepts behind “anonymous functions” and “event handlers’
•What did you learn from that?
I always see it but I was confused before on how they are being executed as I was used to seeing them being invoked from the main program.
Also appreciated the value of attaching several event handlers and not just hard coded it in an element
•What will you do with that knowledge?
More understanding on these concepts and re-evaluate previous coding that I have used in my work projects

What did you think was the most valuable thing that happened for you tonight?
had ideas of “use strict”, using html, css and javascript in jsbin, and working with DOM.
What did you learn from that?
I could co-relate and recollect what i had learned from the fundamentals of javascript that was done about a year back.
What will you do with that knowledge?
i can use jsbin to do more examples on what i had learned from the class.
    Questions?

Now that we’ve had our first session, what do you want to know?
    more about modernizr.
What could we have done better?
it will be better if we do more on class exercise.

I like how jim presents his material in a new age for a new age.

I am a little foggy on the anonymous functions but understand eventHandlers with no issues

I am not able to get into the peer wise but anyone is open to answer these hard questions. Please don’t spend too much time on them

    a) html 5
    b) javascript
    c) css
    d) php

    what does use script do?

    a) eliminates some JavaScript silent erros
    b) fixes mistakes and corrects them so its not difficult and more simple for JavaScript engines to perform optimizations
c)prohibits some syntax likely to be defined in future versions
    d) all the above
    e)a+c

what show did Jim recently watch and needed to watch his mouth around his good friends?

    a)breaking bad
    b)mad men
    c)the wire
    d)the shield

    what is peer wise?

    a) an idea that to ask a question about a subject you must understand what the subject is
    b) a collective of geniuses imparting their knowledge to the world
    c) funded by canada and will help you come to new zealand
    d)a+b

I liked the concept of “use strict” which allows you to write a better code and makes it easier to work on shared code. I had never used this before in my own coding but I’ll make sure I’ll do that. However I would definitely use it in anonymous function so that it doesn’t affect third party and external javascript files that I link to my html.

I like to learn more canvas and how I can use it more effectively. I had never used canvas before.

  5. BobW says:

What did you think was the most valuable thing that happened for you tonight?
I was really interested in the event handlers.
What did you learn from that?
There is more than one way to make a website interactive.
What will you do with that knowledge?
I want to make a personal website that has some interactive elements drawn pieces.
Questions?
Now that we’ve had our first session, what do you want to know?
More about modernizr. – (Agreed)
I’m also eager to dive into the canvas tag as well as Geo.
What could we have done better?
Maybe more time building some things in code where we can ask questions along the way.

    Session 2 comments:
What did you think was the most valuable thing that happened for you tonight? – learned about the concept of document fragment and “try, catch, finally”
What did you learn from that? – safer to implement these concepts when embedding code to a page
What will you do with that knowledge? – as I usually code snippets for our intranet, I would have to be more careful when implementing changes to the DOM
